Online Early Music Retreat
A warm welcome to the homepage of the Early Music Retreat. - Online. This is the first early music event of its kind in the United Kingdom! Six expert (and very friendly!) tutors present a number of group and individual sessions for players and singers of mixed abilities. We will guide participants through the beautiful music of the renaissance and cover aspects of performance practice, two and three part ensembles in a 'minus-one' arrangement, technique for voice, viol, lute, recorder and choral work, ending with a qigong and voice workshop. At no point, apart from within the lute song sessions and one-to-one recorder lessons, will you need to perform in front of anyone else, as you will be asked to mute, unless you feel you would like to be heard, and as agreed with your tutor.

The Lute Song Session classrooms contain a choice of thirteen Dowland songs and downloadable music to print. Backing tracks for the songs, recorded by lutenist, Richard MacKenzie are also in the classrooms for you to download.
Please select one song. You will need to play your backing track on a suitable device, as you sing, during the class.
Music for other sessions will be in your particular classroom on booking.
We also present some mini-concerts, which are free to view, to those who book with us. The Introduction to Lute Songs is also free to view before you book any session.

Safe and secure booking is handled online by Kompassera, as well as providing virtual classrooms for each session where you can access supplementary teaching material described above, initiate the online video sessions, and view your online calendar showing the sessions you have booked for the day. This website provides all the information you need in order to view, select and book your sessions, as well as some simple advice for setting up online beforehand, but if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to welcoming you on the 20th September.
